GHR Foundation Expands Senior Leadership Team with Chief of Strategy and Programs, and Chief Investment Officer

Press Release – MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 4, 2017GHR Foundation announced today the expansion of its senior leadership team to help maximize its programmatic impact and investments for social good. Manisha Bharti, named chief of strategy and programs, and Jason Matz, chief investment officer, will work with the foundation’s board, executives and program staff to build the organization and enhance its results both locally and globally.

Manisha Bharti, Chief of Strategy and Programs

Bharti oversees the evolution and implementation of the foundation’s overall strategy, and leads efforts to track, analyze and measure results and knowledge emerging from GHR’s grant-making and partnerships. She is also responsible for communications to the board and its committees on overall program activities and impact.

Bharti was previously chief strategy officer of FHI 360, a leading global development organization based in Washington, D.C., where she oversaw the corporate strategy, partnerships, communications and business development functions. Prior to her 11-year tenure at FHI 360, Bharti served several foundations, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Foundation, in addition to working at McKinsey & Company, the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS and the Canadian Government. Bharti is a member of the YRGCARE Advisory Council, a leading AIDS research and treatment institution based in India. She earned her masters’ degrees in business administration and public health from Johns Hopkins University and completed her bachelor’s degree at Harvard University, where she also serves as class secretary.

Jason Matz, Chief Investment Officer

As chief investment officer, Matz oversees investment management for GHR Foundation and Arbor Philanthropy LLC.

Named an endowment manager of the year in 2015 by Institutional Investor magazine, Matz served as chief investment officer of Carleton College from 2004 until joining GHR. There, he built an investment management team and managed Carleton’s endowment. Prior to joining Carleton, he was the director of global equity research at investment consulting firm Jeffrey Slocum & Associates, Inc. and an investment analyst at the Minnesota State Board of Investment. Matz sits on the investment committees at both Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, and Benilde-St. Margaret’s. He is a past board member and treasurer of Wilderness Inquiry. Matz earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Boston University and a master’s degree in business administration from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
