Press Release – NEW YORK, NY, May 22, 2018 — On the eve of May 21, 2018 the Wolf Conservation Center (WCC), a South Salem, NY-based non-profit environmental organization dedicated to wolf conservation hosted its annual fundraiser, “Saving Planet Earth, One Wolf At A Time,” at Spring Place in NYC. The organization raised $1.25 million in support of a new education pavilion to supplement the collective $4 million raised through the past two years. The announcement comes on the heels of WCC’s recent welcome of two liters of critically endangered red wolf pups and a litter of Mexican gray wolf pups.

Martha Handler, Chairwoman of the Board for the Wolf Conservation Center, commented, “Environmentalists are all on the same page. We hear deeply the sounds of the planet and are called to action on its behalf. Though the planet can survive without us, we cannot survive without the planet. As we become increasingly connected to our electronics, we are becoming increasingly disconnected from the environment.” Handler continued, “Education + Empathy = Urgency; this is what’s needed to wake us up from our numbing stupor and motivate us to make meaningful changes; we are so thankful to all that came to support and to those that continue to spread the word about these incredible animals.”

The exclusive cocktail and appetizer reception benefiting the Wolf Conservation Center included featured speakers Paul Nicklen and Cristina Mittermeier, world-renowned environmental photographers and co-founders of Sea Legacy, Canadian filmmaker and nature photographer, Gregory Colbert (creator of Ashes and Snow) and signature cocktails created by Montelobos Mezcal in addition to top-shelf alcohol options provided by William Grant & Sons Distillers and Wolf Pup Session IPA and Wolf Among Weeds donated by Golden Road Brewing.

Additional special guests and supporters of WCC included, Stephanie Ruhle, Host of MSNBC’s Live with Stephanie Ruhle; Dr. Max Gomez, Medical/Health Correspondent, CBS; Ed Norton, Actor and Filmmaker; Carl Icahn, Founder of Icahn & Co. (Leading Shareholder and Activist); Brian Sheth, Founder of the Sangreal Foundation; Conservationist and former CEO of Patagonia, Kris Tompkins (wife of the late Doug Tompkins); Nina-Marie Daniele, Playboy Playmate of the Year and Daniel Nadler, Entrepreneur.

Key highlights from the evening included a live auction featuring a wolf painting donated by youth artist and advocate, Bria Neff (Founder of Faces of the Endangered), entitled, “Majestic,” the Blue Wolf purchased for $15,000, in addition to a martini with Carl Icahn for $100,000 and a day on set and lunch with Stephanie Ruhle, of MSNBC. Proceeds from the auction go directly to funding the education center and conservation of wolves.
