Press Release – Buenos Aires, Argentina — April 19, 2018 — Approximately 100 attendees of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in Buenos Aires will today help transform the Buenos Aires Eco-park—a former zoo—into a sustainable educational facility.
Volunteers will plant native trees and species, restore a historic bridge and assemble educational brochures. The program will highlight the need for cities to redefine their relationship with the environment, and facilitate sustainable development. The effort is led by the non-profit organization Tourism Cares, which unites the tourism industry to give back to host communities and is collaborating with the WTTC for the fourth year in a row.
“It is gratifying to see our great industry demonstrate our collective passion for volunteering and giving back to the destinations we visit, invest in and bring travelers to,” said Brett Tollman, chief executive of The Travel Corporation. “Coming to Buenos Aires for a conference is more than just attending meetings and networking; it’s us rolling up our sleeves that demonstrates we are committed to getting things done and walking the talk, while also leaving a smaller footprint behind.”
When completed, the Buenos Aires Eco-park will contribute to biodiversity and conservation through education and recreation, and host scientific research projects, rescued animals and wildlife rehabilitation.

The volunteer project is made possible by The Travel Corporation, World Travel & Tourism Council, City of Buenos Aires, Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, MaCher, Marriott International, and Tauck Ritzau Innovative Philanthropy.
