The Discover Outdoors Foundation (DOF) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve education for underserved urban youth in New York City by providing them with life-changing outdoor experiences. Since its inception in 2012, the Foundation has provided the opportunity for hundreds of kids and teens to experience the outdoors for the first time through activities including hiking, camping, snowshoeing, fishing, and more.

“Our mission is to make the natural world available and accessible to everyone, regardless of their resources,” says Reynolds, who founded the organization as a way to give back to his local community in partnership with popular NYC-based adventure company Discover Outdoors. “What better way to spotlight the importance of creating opportunities for everyone to experience nature than to camp out in the heart of the urban jungle?”

Donations in any amount will be accepted at www.CrowdRise.com/CampingforaCause beginning at 11:00am on Saturday, June 14. Venue sponsor Fjällräven has pledged to match all donations up to $2,500 to help reach the $5,000 goal. Donation receipts can also be redeemed at the Fjällräven store for 10% off all merchandise during the weekend of June 14-15.

New Yorkers are encouraged to visit the “campsite” in person to experience outdoor education each hour on the hour, including First Aid and Cooking Without Electricity. Visitors can also post photos of themselves at the campsite to social media with hashtag #OutdoorRise for a chance to win a complimentary Discover Outdoors weekend trip. Reynolds’s Soho Survival progress and donation status will be posted in real time on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #OutdoorRise.
