AUSTIN, TX., Mar. 4, 2015Care2, the leading social network for people passionate about making a difference, today awarded the sixth annual Care2 Impact Prize to The American Heart Association for their outstanding impact on the field of advocacy. Announced at the 2015 Nonprofit Technology Conference in Austin, TX, The American Heart Association was recognized for their “So Many Reasons” campaign, which used a combination of classic grassroots tactics along with new media and technology strategies to convince New York state legislators and Governor Cuomo to pass the CPR in Schools bill. The annual award recognizes campaigns or initiatives in the nonprofit sector that have made an exceptional contribution to the fields of online activism and/or online fundraising.

The original online petitioning platform, Care2 is a network of more than 28 million members and 1,500 nonprofits working together to make a difference. The Care2 Impact Prize was created as an extension of the company’s commitment to recognizing organizations that are truly making a difference in the world, and honors this year’s winner with a $1,000 donation towards their cause.

The Impact Prize runners-up, Demand Progress, New Yorkers Against Fracking coalition (NYAF), United We Dream (UWD), and Imagine No Malaria will receive Care2’s Innovation Award for their exemplary work.

Finalists were designated by a select panel of judges representing Care2 core partners, including the Environmental Defense Fund, Greenpeace, MINDSet Direct, OMP, Operation Smile, and Communicopia.

“Care2 was founded on the idea that individuals, through acts large and small, can use technology to make a difference,” said Randy Paynter, CEO and founder of Care2. “We are pleased to have an opportunity to recognize and contribute to organizations that are similarly using technology to drive impactful nonprofit campaigns and create true global change.
