Megan Metz Begins New Role As Executive Director Of Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Education Foundation

Press Release – APTOS, Calif. (February 22, 2019)-– After six years as the executive director of the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association (SCMWA), Megan Metz announces her transition to executive director of the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Education Foundation (SCMWEF).

“This move is an opportunity to extend my work raising awareness of the fantastic wine produced here, while also helping to make a difference in the lives of children through transformative and innovative educational programs which SCMWEF supports,” said Metz.

Metz is one of the leaders responsible for the creation of SCMWEF, which was launched in 2015 as a nonprofit body of SCMWA with the mission to invest deeply in areas of Children’s education and health research to create a positive impact in local communities. She also established the organization’s signature event, the Silicon Valley Wine Auction, as a premier wine auction. Over the past five years, the auction has served as the primary fundraising event for SCMWEF and has raised over $3.7 million to support learner-led educational programs benefiting children in the community.

During her time as executive director of SCMWA, Metz played a pivotal role in turning around the organization’s finances, operations and marketing performance, which has contributed to its long-term sustainability. She increased revenues by 50% by developing new programs and streamlining existing programs with wider consumer appeal, improving content and enhancing marketing efforts. She led winery participation through more than 500 brand awareness wine events within the Bay Area and garnered media attention by hosting over 100 members of the trade and media.
