The Stand Hosts Second Dance Marathon Benefiting Local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

New York, NY – March 4, 2014 – The Stand, the inaugural New York City citywide Dance Marathon, will host its second dance marathon event on Saturday, March 29, 2014. It will take place at Chelsea Piers, New York City’s famed sports and entertainment complex, located at 23rd Street and Hudson River Park.

Volunteers will commit to fundraise $150, as well as stand on their feet for 12 hours straight, for the philanthropy which benefits children treated for numerous illnesses at three local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, including the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, Children’s Specialized Hospital and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center. All of the money raised by the organization is donated to these three hospitals.

The Stand, now in its second year, hopes to build off the success of year one, when more than $52,000 was raised for Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Its young professional volunteers from the New York City metro area have spent the last year fundraising and spreading awareness around New York City in an effort to raise money, recruit participants and secure in-kind donations.

“Our Dance Marathon is the pinnacle of our year,” says Jaclyn Bianco, The Stand’s external director. “It not only culminates the time and effort of our volunteers to make this happen, but it is also a unique event that allows participants to see firsthand the difference they are making in children’s lives.”

Unlike traditional dance marathons, “citywides” are not associated with a specific university or college and are open to everyone in the area. The Stand is the third citywide dance marathon in the country. Other cities participating include Chicago and Atlanta.
