(June 3 — Indianapolis) – Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, an endowed special interest fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation, has awarded grants of $110,000 to 11 organizations. This brings Women’s Fund’s total investment to central Indiana nonprofits to more than $5.4 million, representing a significant investment in the greatest needs and critical issues facing women and girls.
“As central Indiana’s only foundation dedicated solely to investing in women and girls, our work is critical in helping all women in the communities we serve become self-sufficient and economically secure,” said Jennifer Pope Baker, executive director, Women’s Fund of Central Indiana. “To help meet the growing needs throughout central Indiana, we are strategically partnering with – and supporting these worthwhile organizations as we work together to make a difference in the lives of women and girls who need our help.”
Here’s a closer look at the 2014 grants awarded:
- Concord Neighborhood Center – $15,000 for programming and program restructuring to better serve girls ages 6-14.
- Dress for Success Indianapolis – $5,000 to purchase shoes, uniforms and plus-size clothing for its Suits for Success Program.
- Exodus Refugee Immigration – $5,000 to support Women’s Program empowerment services and activities in the areas of health, continuing education, integration, and self-sufficiency.
- Forest Manor Multi-Service Center – $15,000 to support Sisters Striving for Success Program for adult women, including financial literacy courses, workforce development services, small business development and self-esteem enhancement.
- Future Promises (a program of Health and Hospital Corporation) – $10,000 to support Career & College Exploration Project for parenting teens.
- Girl Scouts of Central Indiana – $10,000 to support program expansion for Girl Scouts in the Foster Care System.
- Girls Incorporated of Johnson County – $15,000 to support summer camp, after school programming and organizational sustainability.
- Hawthorne Social Service Association – $10,000 for early childhood childcare subsidy assistance for mothers participating in the Center for Working Families.
- The Julian Center – $5,000 to support economic empowerment and advocacy staff.
- Project Home Indy – $15,000 for it Alumni After-Care Program development for parenting teens.
- Southeast Community Services – $5,000 to support its Moving Forward Program for female ex-offenders re-entering society.
